Festivities in Sardinia | January

On January 17th many communities celebrate the festivity of Sant’Antonio Abate. Already on the eve of the party, huge log fires get inflamed which should, if possible, consist of aromatic woods. In some villages, only rosemary bushes may get burned, whose aromatic smell is in the air days after the celebration. On the red-letter day itself, many people gather round the log fires to eat, drink and dance. This festivity in a way leads in carnival on Sardinia. Already on January 20th the celebration of holy Sebastino takes place with fireworks and log fires. By this means the New Year shall be acclaimed and one asks for a rich harvest and the welfare of the caddle.
